Hot for Hot Pants?

Blogs are predicting the newest Spring trend: hot pants. Seen here on the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2010 runway and also in editorials in magazines like Elle and Harper's Bazaar, hot pants are shorts with essentially negative hemlines - think vintage-y bathing suit cuts. While certainly appealing if you happen to be six feet tall with perfect legs, I don't think this trend is super practical for the average girl. But for those not faint of heart, this might be one trend to try in the upcoming season. What are your thoughts? Daring enough to bare your legs once the weather turns warm? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Love Letters

As of Saturday, December 19th the "Love Letter" mural arts project has been completed in West Philadelphia. 50 walls have been painted, and all can be viewed while traveling the market-frankford line. To check out a map of the murals, go to www.aloveletterforyou.com. The project was described as "a love letter for West Philly from West Philly". With a tagline like that, you better take a walk west and check it out from 45th to 63rd street on market.

Aldrin Abastillas: Daring classicsm.

Name: Aldrin Abastillas
Class: 2012
Hometown: Sewell, NJ

"I like colours and being crazy. I'm not afraid to be noticed." Aldrin wore this fantastic outfit that I definitely noticed. From the military-inspired peacoat to the faded red skinnies to the striped slip-ons (with red accents to match the pants!), this ensemble infused daring with GQ-esque classicism.

Deck the Windows

Other than Christmas lights, store window displays may be one of the most looked forward to parts of the holiday season. There's plenty of hype surrounding the major department stores, but check out these adorable displays from some other stores:

Miu Miu's window- inspired by the world of Gems.

Louis Vuitton-inspired by the many travels of the season
Send in your own quote about your holiday journeys at and it may make it into the display during the month of December.

Check out the polar bears in the Marc Jacobs window, to promote his partnership with The Climate Project. 100% of the proceeds of a climate themed MJ t-shirt will be donated to the cause.

Smashbox at Douglas

Douglas is stepping up their game for the holiday season. When you walk in you’ll be greeted by a new display of Smashbox cosmetics. The display table is overflowing with eyeshadows in a variety of colors and other essentials, perfect for holiday gifting or a little pre-finals splurge.

The Eye Shadow trio in Twilight is perfect for a smoky eye, and you can have plenty of fun playing with the individual palettes in 32 different shades.

They also have some cute holiday gift sets- and the best part is they're already packaged and wrapped.

Michelle Rice: Dare to bee unique.

Name: Michelle Rice
Class: 2013
Hometown: Seattle, WA

"Colours, animals and mixing patterns." These things are the staples of Michelle's unique style. The tartan vest in venetian red, skirt and of course the bright yellow bumblebee boots created a funky yet chic outfit that grabbed my attention right away--it's an ensemble that you won't forget!

wild things to be found high and low...high and low end fashion, that is

It's seriously about time

someone designed clothing inspired by Wild Things. (I've actually always wanted to wear Max's jumpsuit and crown for Halloween....) If you've been to Urban Outfitters down the street in the past few weeks (everybody raise their hands)

you've probably noticed the t-shirts, pillows, even wall art of Where The Wild Things Are.

A T-shirt with scribbly writing in the giant wild thing? Definitely snagging that. They even sell oldschool records of the soundtrack by Karen O- O! (Totally gratuitous fun fact: Karen O's crazy costume designer- that is, the costumes are crazy, though the designer behind them may be too- partnered with UO to design some truly ridiculous Wild Thing-esque costumes. What do you think of the ones below?)

Maybe less on the radar is Pamela Love for Opening Ceremony's sumptuous collection of Wild Things faux furs, tees, and all kinds of jewelry that comes clawed and toothed and taloned (oh my!) On their website, some of the coats, dresses, and skirts are even matched up with specific creatures according to fur color and shagginess?! It's quite funny to see pictures of models coming up to the waists of the big hulking Things next to them. Fashion does indeed have a (child's) sense of humor. And it's also very furry-creature-friendly.

Fashion and... Vampires?

Bluefly's CEO drinking blood and posing as a vampire? I know it's relevant to this time of year (especially with the next Twilight coming out), but has the vampire craze gone a little too far? Brilliant marketing campaign or bizarre and creepy ? Let us know what you think in the comments...

Hm?

I’m a big fan of taking fashion risks, and I’m also a big fan Forever 21’s Urban Outfitters-esque boutique brand, Heritage 1981, which is full of delightful plaids (like this poncho. I dig it.) and ruffled details for very manageable prices. But I could not help but giggle when I saw this interesting combination of trends pop up on their website. I am being decidedly open-minded about this flannel/onesie hybrid, but please.. someone, anyone, explain it to me. Brightside: you'd never have to worry about your shirt coming untucked.
